Who We Help

Migraines

Migraines are one of the most prevalent illnesses in the world.  They affect nearly 1 in 4 households in the U.S. alone. Migraines can last several days and have a major impact on a person’s quality of life.

Research demonstrates the efficacy of Chinese medicine and nutritional therapy in treating the imbalances that are causing migraines. A skilled and specialized Doctor and Chinese herbs are of particular importance in diagnosing correctly.

Custom Herbs from The Medicine Tree

A lot of people aren’t aware that migraines tend to occur in stages and they don’t always result in pain.

Migraines are more of an event.  Symptoms that occur before the migraine are called the prodrome. This stage can be hours or even days leading up to the migraine and include symptoms like fatigue, neck stiffness, insomnia, blurred vision, irritability, food cravings, increased need to urinate, brain fog, depression, yawning, and sensitivity to light.  Some people get an aura 5-60 minutes before their migraine.

The main stage begins and can last 4-72 hours.  It is typically the point at which pain begins.  Nausea, sensitivity to light, smell and sound and vomiting also are extremely common.  The final stage is when the pain subsides. THis is called the postdrome.  It lasts 24-48 hours and includes fatigue, depressed mood, brain fog, and a lack of comprehensive.  When this stage is complete it is very common to be retriggered into rebound headaches that also trigger another migraine keeping you in a vicious cycle.

Typically your doctor will prescribe a medication to help you deal with migraine symptoms.  Unfortunately a lot of these medications cause a lot of unwanted side effects and they only help take the edge off.  They do not treat the root cause.
